Question by Jawad170: Studying in Japan (University)?
I am an international studying currently studying in high school in UAE (in the middle east).

I am planning to go to university either after finishing this school year, or the next.

I am currently studying under the British curriculum and doing my CIE AS-Levels in Math (P1 and M1), Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

I have already completed my O-Level IGCSE Exams last year in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English (as a second language), Environmental Management and Information Technology (IT). Scoring 4 A*, 1 A and 2 B.

Anyway, not long ago I went to a “education fare” kind of place and there I met a recruiter from Germany and he told me a lot of things, and what I was most interested in is that he said studying in Germany is very expensive, however, if I learn the language and study in a German-speaking university it would be much more affordable and maybe even better in teaching quality.

I asked him how would I learn a completely new language and start studying in university. He said that some universities offer an intensive language program which will teach me everything I need to know in the first 8 months and then directly start to study at the university.

So, I was wondering if something like this also is available in Japan. I want to study Computer Science, and I think Japan is a great place to do this. Please tell me what you know about studying there and learning the language and if you can recommend any specific universities for me check out, that would be great too.

Thank You.

Yes, I understand. Japanese is a completely different language than German is compared to English. And I assume that thing you said that requires years to master is Kanji, am I correct?

But still, Japanese is the only language that I am really interested in and am willing to learn. I already know 4 languages but Japanese just seems much better.

So, do you have any advice? should I go with this? or should I just try another place?

You can’t learn everything you need to learn in 8 months, especially when it comes to Japanese.
Japanese is not like German. It has absolutely no relationship with English outside of loan words. It uses three writing systems, one of which takes years to master even with the most intensive of studying. In order to attend a Japanese university and participate in classes taught in Japanese you need to know how to read, write, speak, and comprehend Japanese at a near-fluent level before you’re allowed entry because you have to pass the very difficult entrance examinations.
