I need computer help?
Question by yahhoooey: I need computer help?
okay so i was on a computer, writing a book on Office writer.
i had sent it to myself by email.
i tried to open it on the laptop (im on now)
and it wont open (but it is microsoft word)
so when i click on the attachment on the email, a box pops up and i click, open. then it takes me to this other box, and it says
“File Conversion” then i have to select the encoding that makes the document readable..? and they give me a list of things like, IBM EBCDIC (Us-Canada) —thats the only one that makes sence becasue my laptop is an IBM. so i click on it and open it and it shows up like this-
SwDû ¥êÂj

when the box comes up that says open, dont ckick on it. Try clicking on save and then choose a destination for the file. This might work.

make sure when you originally save the file you save it as a .doc or .rtf

Yes OpenOffice outputs files in which Microsoft Word cannot not read so it requires converting the file so try converting with UTF-8 encoding.
